In the Third Age transition, some people end careers while others keep working. Some turn a hobby into an income-stream or find a “fun” job that doesn’t have the weight of a career. Still others start new businesses or establish consulting practices where they determine their own schedules.

Ask yourself these questions:

• What portion of my life do I want to devote to career and paid work?
• Can I negotiate flex-time or a phased retirement plan at my present job?
• Do I need to plan for my succession?
• Could I develop a more significant role as a mentor at my present job?
• Does my company have a sabbatical leave plan, so I can experiment with life options?
• Is it time to consider a new career or a business of my own?
• What have I always wanted to do, but never had the time to do, until now?
